IPCEI in the sector of advanced circular materials for clean technologies - June 2026

Support & counseling

This call for expressions of interest (CEI) is intended for economic operators wishing to engage in innovative projects at the European level. The purpose of this CEI is to identify actors who could participate, in the territories of the authorities involved, in large-scale European projects in the sector of advanced circular materials for clean technologies in the EU.

About

Objectives of the IPCEI-CAM
The proposed IPCEI highlights the EU's strategic autonomy in circular advanced materials for clean technologies and aims to promote sustainable innovation in the energy, mobility, and electronics sectors. The initiative seeks to overcome obstacles (such as dependence on imported raw materials and high R&D costs, among others) by coordinating transnational R&D and first industrial deployment (FID) projects. This is in order to promote an integrated ecosystem that supports the EU's green transformation objectives. In the sense of the IPCEI, advanced materials are materials or combinations of materials with enhanced, new, or unique properties and functionalities that support the green transition across multiple sectors. Advanced materials encompass a wide range of applications, from renewable energy systems and energy storage to lightweight and high-performance materials in the fields of mobility and electronics, offering enhanced sustainability, efficiency, and circularity.

Projects integrating into the IPCEI CAM will aim to:

  • Strengthen resource circularity and efficiency: prioritize advanced materials that are more easily recyclable, derived from sustainable sources, designed to minimize waste, and reduce material intensity.

  • Stimulate innovation throughout the value chain: develop and/or deploy on a larger scale innovative solutions for advanced materials that improve sustainability, repairability, reuse, and refurbishing capacity, integrating circular economy principles from production to end of life.

To be eligible, advanced materials developed within the framework of this IPCEI must follow a circular approach and be either reusable, repairable, or recyclable, and contribute to at least one of the circular economy strategies listed in the document "IPCEI CAM Annex information" (EN). The IPCEI CAM has identified three priority application areas for clean technologies: renewable energies and storage systems, industrial decarbonization, and clean mobility, including electronics applied in these three sectors.

A detailed description of the objectives pursued as well as the application areas that will be supported is provided in the document "IPCEI CAM_Annex information" (EN). (PDF, 406.14 KB)
