Natural parc "Cœur de Condroz"

Recognised by Wallonia in December 2023, the Cœur de Condroz Nature Park covers the municipalities of Assesse, Ciney, Gesves, Hamois, Havelange and Ohey. Its mission is to promote sustainable territorial management by balancing human activities with the preservation of natural resources and quality of life.

Beyond biodiversity conservation, the Nature Park works across a broad range of territorial development areas, including landscape preservation, agriculture, forests, mobility, spatial planning, energy, tourism, socio-economic development and social cohesion.

The organisation develops and supports projects that foster ecological transition and local resilience. Its activities cover themes such as agriculture and food systems, natural resources, circular and local economy, energy, social inclusion and sustainable mobility.

By encouraging cooperation between local stakeholders, citizens and public authorities, the Cœur de Condroz Nature Park contributes to the development of a more sustainable, resilient and attractive territory. It is also part of Wallonia’s Local Action Group (LAG/GAL) network.

Objectives of the Nature Park:

• Protect, manage, and enhance the natural and landscape heritage.

• Contribute to defining and guiding land-use planning projects in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

• Promote sustainable development within the Park’s territory by supporting local development—economically and socially—and improving quality of life.

• Organize public reception, education, and information.

• Participate in the experimentation of new methods for managing rural areas, testing innovative planning processes and methods, and implementing European programs and territorial cooperation.

• Foster collaboration between Nature Parks and, where appropriate, cross-border cooperation with similar areas in neighboring regions or countries.

• Encourage rural development initiatives in the member municipalities and ensure coherence of inter-municipal projects within the framework of local rural development programs.
