The structuring of an efficient sector in the field of construction and demolition waste recycling requires an assessment of the potential supply and market, taking into account current directions in city-on-city reconstruction. The investments that will need to be made for Wallonia to become the “recycling valley” in the field of mineral waste recycling must be based on clear data and on the identification of specific valorization pathways.
The ReInvenTe project – REcycling of construction waste based on the Technical and Economic INVENTory of buildings – made it possible to carry out an inventory of the region's real estate heritage as well as a dynamic mapping of deconstruction/reconstruction operations in the Walloon Region.
The modeling of different scenarios in the field of urban renovation provides us with volumes of materials available in order to set up an action plan and develop the construction and demolition waste recycling industry. Both the methodology and the tools that have been developed allow, thanks to data management and artificial intelligence, to prepare the Walloon industry for this challenge.
