Green'er - Call for Projects 2026 - A Circular Alternative to Silo Tires

What is it about?
In many Belgian farms, used tires are used to hold down the sheets covering grass and corn silos. This practice creates real risks for both the environment and health: leaching of harmful substances, release of microplastics, and creating areas conducive to insect breeding. There is currently no satisfactory alternative. Green'er aims to fund a team responsible for developing an alternative solution using tire materials.

What are we looking for?

Green’er will select a multidisciplinary team tasked with developing, over a period of 12 to 18 months and using a stage-gated approach, a functional and circular alternative to silo tires. Design thinking and active involvement from farmers will be at the heart of the process. The journey will span from the scoping phase to a validated prototype. Funding will be released by phase, after positive evaluation by the Management Committee.

Selection Process

Submitted applications will be evaluated by an independent jury based on their technical and circular ambition, the feasibility of the prototype, the design-oriented approach, the quality of the team, and the potential for scaling up (the full list of criteria can be found in the call brochure below). The Green’er Management Committee will make the final decision.
