On the one hand, the cement industry, the flagship of the Walloon industry, has to deal with :
on the one hand, the cement industry, the flagship of the Walloon industry, has to deal with the following: - on the material level, with a decrease in natural resources, a decreasing availability of mineral additives used in cements such as blast furnace slag and fly ash;
economic and environmental, to the limitation of CO2 quotas and the competitive import of foreign cement and clinker.
On the other hand, the recycling and waste recovery industry is also facing :
increasingly stringent requirements for materials from deconstruction/demolition, soil remediation, past industrial activity ;
the perception that recycled asbestos cement sheets are dangerous.
Thus, CBR as well as Duferco, SBMI and Tradecowall have decided to join forces with the CosmoCem project to research (with the CRIC and CTP Research Centres) how to transform (with two process companies TPF and Technord) important flows of Walloon alternative secondary materials that have no outlet to create new mineral additions for cement.
