CIBER

Project

The main objective of this project is to enhance the circularity of natural aggregates in the construction sector for the production of precast concrete elements.

About

How can demolition flows and aggregates be used to produce high-value precast concrete and large-format modular blocks ?

Given the high consumption of natural aggregates in the construction sector, the growing use of recycled aggregates has become essential.

Wanty and Dufour, who have developed a recycling process for demolition flows, will work to improve the quality of the resulting aggregates in order to repurpose them into higher value-added outlets—namely, precast concrete for large structural components (bridge decks, support lintels, hollow-core slabs, floors, and deconstructible modular blocks)—in collaboration with Roosens.

Beyond existing structural components already on the market, the CIBER project aims to develop new, innovative structural elements in the form of large-format modular blocks. These will be designed to improve installation and deconstruction processes through eco-design principles, facilitating reuse.

This Cradle to Cradle approach will support circular recovery not only of the aggregates but also of the finished products through their reuse in the construction sector.

This project contributes to :

  • The recovery and valorization of mixed demolition aggregated

  • The production of flexible structural construction elements, offering easier disassembly and reuse potential.

This is a project supported by the GREENWIN cluster, funded under the PNRR recovery plan.
