Polypea

Stakeholder

Launched in early 2020, PolyPea is a start-up with the ambition to develop and produce biosourced, biodegradable bioplastic materials based on waste or co-products from the food industry, in particular pea starch, to meet the need to replace petro-based plastics with environmentally sustainable alternatives.

    About

PolyPea is an innovative start-up founded in early 2020 by Gilles Crahay, specializing in the development and production of bio-based and biodegradable bioplastics. The company focuses particularly on using pea starch, a byproduct of the food industry, to create sustainable materials aimed at replacing petroleum-based plastics. Currently in research and development, PolyPea is working on creating 100% bio-based, 100% biodegradable, and even edible thermoplastic granules, which will be used for packaging applications in sectors such as chemical, sanitary, food, and medical industries.

PolyPea aims to address the growing threat of plastic pollution by offering alternative solutions to traditional plastics, especially single-use packaging, which pollutes our soils, oceans, and threatens biodiversity. By utilizing pea starch, a plant-based raw material, PolyPea reduces the ecological footprint of plastic production while contributing to a circular and sustainable economy.

The company is committed to reducing the use of fossil resources and protecting the environment, with a clear goal of providing high-quality bioplastic materials that are entirely biodegradable and derived from renewable resources.
