The “Sustainable Materials and Reuse in Construction: Choices, Benefits, and Practical Cases” training highlights the decisive impact of material selection, given that 50% of a building’s ecological footprint is determined at the construction stage. It covers:

  • Criteria for choosing sustainable materials

  • The benefits of large-scale reuse

  • Analysis of raw materials, health impacts, and life cycles

  • Tools, roles, and goals for integrating circularity

  • Practical cases and real-life feedback

This training is recognized by the Federal Council of Surveyors-Experts for 7 hours and is eligible for the Liberform CP 336 grant (more information at https://www.liberform.be/fr_BE/wat-is-de-opleidingspremie).

Detailed Program

  • 8:45 – Welcome Breakfast (pastries, coffee, juice…)

  • 9:00 – Introduction

    • 50% of the ecological impact of a building is set at the time of construction

    • The importance of material selection as a lever for the sector’s transition

  • 10:00 – Large-scale reuse

    • Challenges and stakes of the transition to circularity

    • Obstacles in the sector and proposed solutions

  • 12:45 – Break

  • 13:15 – Presentation of practical cases

    • Circular design and long life design

    • Material selection

    • Building as material bank

    • Reuse (integration into the architect’s scope at different project stages, compliance with standards, etc.)

    • Life cycle analysis and carbon footprint

  • 15:30 – Explanation: Reuse material sourcing process

  • 17:00 – End

Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of materials in building sustainability

  • Identify and analyze criteria for choosing sustainable materials

  • Integrate large-scale reuse with appropriate tools and strategies

  • Set realistic goals for circular projects

  • Reuse structural elements and organize reuse flows

  • Draw inspiration from practical cases to design sustainable projects

Fees and conditions:

  • €340.00 or 7 CHFO + €130.00

  • Registration is confirmed upon payment of the €130 registration fee (at least 7 days before the training).

  • Continuing education is open to participants whose organization is based in Brussels or the German-speaking Community, subject to the fee set by the organizers.
