The "Sustainable and Circular Sourcing" workshop explores how to select materials and suppliers to ensure product circularity and sustainability. It covers the use of recycled materials, environmental and social issues, and how to revise purchasing processes to minimize the ecological impact of supply chains.
A good recipe starts with good ingredients and good organization. How do you choose your materials, equipment, and suppliers? What are the environmental, social, and even geopolitical impacts of the various categories of resources? To what extent can you replace virgin materials with recycled materials, and geo-resources with bio-resources? How do you evolve your purchasing processes and organize your supply chain? This training offers the guidance you need to make the right choices.
Objectives
These days will help you:
Clarify the issues related to supply chains and identify the levers for transformation.
Understand the concepts of resource scarcity and criticality, and identify their business implications.
Discuss the potential of recycled materials for feeding production chains.
Understand the challenges of relocating extractive activities in Europe.
Find benchmarks to choose your supplies and adapt your purchasing processes.
Discover inspiring practices and approaches.
Content & Program
These days are part of a series of modules aimed at equipping project leaders in the circular economy and, more broadly, anyone wishing to contribute to the social and ecological transitions of economic models. Here is the full program:
The first morning will focus on different industrial supply chain models and the pressures they face, before exploring various ways to improve or even reinvent them. In the afternoon, we will discuss the environmental and social impacts of extraction and explore the geopolitics of natural resources.
The second day, which will take place at the University of Liège, will provide an in-depth look into geo-resources (metallic and non-metallic minerals). The concepts of resource scarcity and criticality will be clarified, as well as the factors to consider in projects involving the incorporation of recycled materials into manufacturing and construction processes. A discussion on the challenges for the extractive industry will follow.
The last morning will focus on purchasing processes. The key steps in sustainable/circular purchasing will be explained, and labels and standards for making positive impact choices will be presented.
Throughout the training, testimonials and examples of inspiring practices will be shared.
