The Leopard project, developed by Carmeuse in Seilles (Andenne), represents a major step toward decarbonizing the lime industry, traditionally a high emitter. Building on the Butterfly demonstrator, Leopard tests breakthrough technologies to capture high-concentration CO₂ using an oxyfuel pilot kiln and a membrane-based capture unit, offering greater efficiency and lower costs than conventional post-combustion methods.
This hybrid solution aims to reduce CO₂ emissions in Europe by 30% by 2030, with a goal of global carbon neutrality by 2050. Supported by the EU Innovation Fund, Leopard relies on a strong consortium of technological and scientific partners, including CRM Group, University of Liège, University of Mons, and industrial players such as CTI, EBC, CORETEC, and VOCSens.
Leopard demonstrates Carmeuse’s commitment to a sustainable industry by integrating carbon capture and utilization solutions across its Belgian and European sites.
