GREEN aids

Starting January 1, 2025, specific aid for environmental protection and energy use were renamed "GREEN aid." The reform aims to promote sustainable investments and enhance environmental commitments, with new eligibility conditions, revised intervention rates, redefined eligible investments, a new premium liquidation procedure, and a new premium for refrigeration units.

The specific aids for environmental protection and energy use will be renamed "GREEN aids" starting from January 1, 2025. Key changes include:

  • Eligibility

    : Economic-purpose ASBLs (nonprofit organizations) are now eligible for aid.

  • Energy Use Aid Conditions:

    • Audit requirement

      : Companies must perform an AMUREBA audit or feasibility study conducted by a certified auditor.

    • Energy meters

      : Businesses must install energy meters to measure energy production or savings by the end of the investment program.

    • Energy accounting

      : Companies must implement energy accounting to measure the effects of investments.

Implementation Timeline:

  • For energy savings in production processes:

    • 2025 for investments above €25,000, 2026 for all programs.

  • For renewable energy programs:

    • 2025 for investments above €100,000, 2026 for all programs.

Investment Return:

  • In energy savings: Investment return time must exceed 3 years.

Non-subsidizable Investments:

  • Land, fossil fuel-based machinery, investments in already adopted EU compliance, certain small-scale renewable energy projects, biomass, and hydrogen production.

Aid Payment:

  • A first aid tranche of 50% is available for investments above €500,000; otherwise, aid is paid in a single tranche after completion.

  • Full aid release requires proof of meeting set goals, including an AMUREBA performance audit for energy use investments.

New Premium: Refrigeration Units:

  • Aid for replacing and modernizing refrigeration installations, focusing on those using CO2, NH3, or propane, and installations over 40 kWth.

  • Maintenance Register

    : A mandatory register must be maintained for aid requests.

This reform encourages sustainable investments and strengthens environmental commitments with clearer and stricter conditions.
