About
The aim of this project is to improve the recycling of asbestos-free fiber-cement sheets by separating them from asbestos-cement sheets during collection.
At present, non-asbestos fiber-cement sheets/plates are directed towards the asbestos sector, i.e. placed in class 2 landfill sites as they are indistinguishable from asbestos materials once crushed/scraped by a conventional recycling process.
Thanks to the FIBFREECEM project, asbestos-free sheets can be recycled in the construction sector and become an integral part of the circular economy targeted by the Circular Wallonia strategy.
