Publication

Study on water-saving devices with recommendations for their selection, implementation, and maintenance, based on analyses and tests conducted by Buildwise with Circular Wallonia's support.

This study is based on an in-depth analysis divided into three main parts, complemented by a comprehensive synthesis. The parts of the study include:

  • Study of Water-Saving Devices in Buildings: Full-Scale Tests

    .

  • Recommendations for Integrating Water-Saving Devices

    .

  • Final Report on the Study of Water-Saving Devices

    .

  • A synthesis titled

Three Pillars for Sustainable Water Management

    .

The study explores practical solutions for reducing water consumption in buildings in Wallonia. The findings highlight the performance of efficient devices such as reduced-flow showers (6 l/min) and optimized-flush toilets (2/4.5 l). A holistic approach is proposed, combining:

  • The use of rainwater or greywater for specific applications.

  • The implementation of monitoring and leak detection systems.

  • Recommendations for adapting wastewater networks to ensure optimal efficiency, particularly in public spaces.

The study also emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about responsible water use, especially for personal hygiene, which represents a major share of domestic water consumption. These findings demonstrate significant opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and improve resource efficiency.
