PolyPea, a three-year-old start-up, is developing a biosourced, biodegradable plastic from pea starch, a Cosucra co-product. They are aiming for circularity, with prototypes validated by customers, and plan to move into industrial production. Their target market is water-soluble plastics, currently dominated by polyvinyl alcohol. Inspired by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's circular economy principles, they focus on "reduce, reuse, recycle". The project was supported by the University of Mons and Walloon regional subsidies.
