Beehub is a young Belgian company offering a range of natural products made from raw materials sourced exclusively from Belgian beehives. From the beehive to the pharmacy, we explain how this winner of the Go Circular call for projects has developed a circular and sustainable model.
Working closely with Beelgium, a network of passionate beekeepers, Beehub selects and buys honey, pollen and propolis. These raw materials are then processed to extract their active ingredients, before being sold in pharmacies in Belgium. This article is part of a series exploring the careers of the winners of Go Circular 2. In this series, we highlight the inspiring initiatives of these winners. One of them, Beehub, in the ‘starter’ category, is developing a model based on the local recovery and reuse of natural resources.
Adding value to the treasures of our Belgian beehives
The Beehub adventure began when its founder joined forces with Beelgium, which owns several beehives spread across Belgium. Noticing that certain beekeeping by-products such as propolis and wax were often neglected, he decided to give them a second life by creating Beehub: a company that transforms these natural treasures into accessible solutions that are beneficial to health. Beehub now offers 15 products: different types of honey, throat sprays, pastilles, sweets and pollen. By favouring a direct relationship between producers and consumers, Beehub guarantees total traceability, responsible production and respect for bees and their ecosystem.
A local, sustainable and responsible production model
Through its partnership with Beelgium, Beehub actively supports local beekeeping and is helping to preserve more than 100 bee colonies, a crucial issue given the alarming decline in these pollinators that are essential to biodiversity.
What's more, by restoring value to natural raw materials, Beehub is helping to combat waste and optimise resources. In this way, the company avoids importing processed or synthetic ingredients, considerably reducing its carbon footprint.
With this in mind, the company has opted for entirely local production: all stages - from harvesting to processing, labelling, packaging and the purchase of glass bottles - are carried out with Belgian partners. This choice strengthens the local economy while reducing logistics flows and the number of kilometres travelled by goods. Finally, as it is concerned about its environmental impact, it uses only recyclable packaging and ensures that its marketing materials are produced locally from biodegradable materials.
Sustainable and promising growth
Since the launch of its range in October 2022, Beehub has continued to develop successfully. The range has been expanded, and sales are growing rapidly. New products are already being developed, with the ambition of continuing to grow while remaining true to its values: circular, local and natural. The latest addition, the propolis spray, registered as a food supplement, reinforces the company's positioning.
