Inaugurated on May 24, 2025, the new sports center at Plaine de la Gadale, which includes a sports hall and a swimming pool, has been equipped with a wood-fired boiler. Installed outside the main building, it occupies a dedicated structure that houses two biomass boilers, a masonry buffer silo, and a mobile container for storing wood chips.
In June 2016, a violent storm destroyed the Baudouin I sports hall in Jodoigne. Rather than rebuild it exactly as it was, the municipal authorities chose to invest in an ambitious, sustainable, and forward-looking project. Inaugurated on May 24, 2025, the new Plaine de la Gadale sports center, which includes a sports hall and a swimming pool, was equipped with a wood-fired boiler system. Located outside the main building, it occupies a dedicated structure housing two biomass boilers, a masonry buffer silo, and a mobile container for storing wood chips. This energy choice reflects the municipality of Jodoigne’s commitment to the energy transition, while ensuring comfort and performance for local clubs and athletes. A major project that may, perhaps, inspire other sports facilities as well as public and private stakeholders in Wallonia to follow the path of wood energy.
