About
Road and airport infrastructures are no longer adapted to the mobility and environmental challenges of tomorrow: roads are deteriorating, airport car parks are no longer adapted to large aircraft and storage areas require increasingly thick foundations. The MonoCrete project responds to these new requirements.
This project is an opportunity to set up a recycling chain for recycled concrete from the crushing of construction and demolition "waste".
Our ambition is to combine the advantages of these two products (ready-mix concrete and recycled aggregates) in the formulation, manufacture and implementation of very thick road concrete. The composition of very thick concrete requires not only a good knowledge of the material but also of the conditions in which it is to be used. The lines of research defined in the project will make it possible to progressively overcome the "bottle necks":
- Composition of the granular skeleton based on compactness (CRIC, ULiège);
- Study of the effect of superplasticizers and air entrainers on the hydration of new cements (CRIC, Holcim);
- Optimisation of vibration frequencies for optimal consolidation (ULiège, CRR and CRIC);
- Modelling of freeze-thaw behaviour (ULiège);
- Durability of compositions (CRIC, ULiège and CRR).
