The global steel industry is aiming for decarbonization and is turning to electric production. However, this technology still has room for improvement in terms of productivity and efficiency. Combined oxygen/flame lances, inserted into the walls of electric arc furnaces, offer significant potential for enhancement due to their energetic and metallurgical roles.

Today, steel plants still rely on basic, short-lived devices designed using empirical models. To address this, a consortium is proposing an innovative solution : a custom-designed blowing system, paired with an integrated software suite, developed with a circular economy approach.

This groundbreaking system targets a European market worth several tens of millions of euros, with positive economic and industrial impacts for Wallonia.
