Alliance for Beam Reuse (AR-P)

Project

Wallonia's construction sector is moving towards a sustainable model. SWITCH has launched "Alliance Réemploi des Poutrelles" (AR-P) to create a range of re-used products and services. The first focus is on steel beams, with workshops to co-construct new business models.

About

The construction sector in Wallonia is steadily moving towards more sustainable and circular practices, driven by challenges in raw material supply and growing demand for reused materials. This shift relies on resources from existing buildings and creates significant economic opportunities, particularly through collaboration and complementarity among industrial and professional stakeholders.

In this context, and convinced of the economic potential of reuse materials, SWITCH has launched the circular initiative “Alliance Réemploi” (AR). This program aims to bring together industry players to collaboratively develop an innovative and practical range of products and services tailored to future market challenges.

The first strategic focus of this initiative concerns steel beams. The Belgian market has now reached a level of maturity that allows the establishment of an organized reuse supply chain for these components. Local stocks, currently underutilized, are substantial. Following the example of other countries that have successfully implemented such systems and already supply the Belgian market, the goal is to structure this value chain in Wallonia and position the sector to seize this opportunity.

The primary mission of Alliance Réemploi is to foster dialogue and collaboration to co-create new business models, innovative products, and services, while building a strong network of complementary partners. The approach is collaborative and action-oriented. SWITCH organizes and facilitates interactive workshops that leverage participants’ expertise, stimulate synergies, and encourage the emergence of concrete, innovative solutions aligned with market developments.

This is not a theoretical exercise focused on studies or reports, but a practical call to action involving companies directly in the field. Each participant is invited to bring their own challenges and work with key partners in the value chain to identify and implement viable, effective solutions within their operations. The objective is to drive a genuine transformation of practices.

Joining AR-P (Alliance Réemploi Poutrelles) means becoming part of a trusted network where exchange, collaboration, and the active pursuit of operational solutions are at the core of the approach. The initiative also offers practical workshops to facilitate the transition from ideas to action.
